Our Story

HELLO! Thanks for visiting our blog.

We’re Daniel and Emma of WITRAG Travel, two 20-something backpackers from Scotland on a trip around the world. We hope that our photography and our stories inspire you to pack your own bags, and that when the time comes our information helps you plan that trip.

We’re new to the blogging and digital nomad game, but we’re working hard to learn more every single day so that we’ll become more professional, more creative and grow within the industry.

We met at university in Glasgow. After graduating, we worked for a few years in our respective fields but always had the ambition to go on the big trip – Daniel has been dreaming about travelling South America in particular, for years.

Making the most of annual leave we’ve visited far-flung places like Komodo Island, Borneo, Jordan, Armenia, and Belarus, always frustrated that our short trips had come to an end. A keen photographer, Daniel’s pictures have been sitting on a hard drive for years, half-heartedly shared on Facebook. In the past we didn’t have the confidence or more importantly, the knowledge to document these trips, to really share our media and our experiences.

Now travelling under the brand of WITRAG travel, we’re budget-travelling through South America, having already spent nearly 4 months in South-East Asia. Our creative RAGs (stories, experiences, poems) come from our interactions with the locals and with other backpackers; from the places we visit, the experiences we have. We always aim to travel as genuinely as possible, staying in local neighbourhoods, eating local food and gaining authentic experiences from the places we’re lucky enough to visit

Meet Emma

About Us Emma headshot

The girl that normally has her back to the camera, walking candidly into the distance. Social media junkie/sunset obsessor, this trip is the perfect chance for me to use my experience in marketing and social media to share our travel stories and knowledge. Biggest achievement to date?

Fitting my clothes for the trip in a 13kg backpack!

Meet Daniel

About Us Daniel headshot

Hi! I’m the one normally behind the camera and the writer of our RAGs. I’ve budget-travelled as much as possible since my first solo backpacker trip to Spain in the summer of 2012 as a skint student.

Since then I’ve found myself surfing in Morocco, slamming vodkas with locals in Minsk and hitchhiking in Albania. This trip is something I’ve been waiting a long time for and I’m delighted to be sharing it with you all.

What is WITRAG?

WITRAG Travel shares practical and up-to-date information about the places we’ve been through our WIT articles. We hope this will help you plan your trip, know what you’re getting in to, and know what to avoid.

However, unlike other travel blogs we have a separate and creative side to our blog. These are our RAGs; the stories, the humour, the poetry and any other little trinkets and tales from the trip. We hope these posts will be a more pleasant read, and it’s how we share our take on the places we visit; the interactions we’ll remember. This allows us to keep the barrage of advice, information and itineraries in a separate space.

While we don’t claim to be exclusively ‘off-the-beaten-path’ travelers, we do try to get to places we think other backpackers perhaps don’t visit as often – places like Georgia, Albania, Ukraine, Burma & Lebanon – and spread the word from there.
